Cold Day 2013

Cold Day began years ago when Mr. YH was deployed and I was home alone with a preschooler and toddler.  We needed a little excitement to make time go by quicker that winter, so Cold Day was invented and has been celebrated annually ever since on/about Ground Hog's Day.  Festivities have become a little less as the kids have gotten older because they're in school and that takes up a lot of my time in planning and executing, but the tradition remains and we had fun.

The kids donned their winter themed shirts that morning and we had mitten and snowmen shaped pancakes.

Homemade tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches hit the spot at lunch!

I love it when companies make stuff like this!
How fun would these be as a snack while reading Mr. Popper's Penguins?!

I went to our base grocery store after Christmas and stocked up on discounted holiday candy.

I also got this cupcake mix and put it up with this day in mind.  The kids all helped make them.  After rest time, we sat down for a yummy afternoon snack!

I got these plates and matching kids mugs from Crate and Barrel a few years ago.  Dishes are my weakness. Cupcakes on cute dishes do a number on me, too.  Throw in hot chocolate and a few cute kids and I'm a goner!

I was introduced to snow in a can at our ladies' Christmas night at church.  The lady demonstrating easy decorating ideas had these and I bee-lined to the Dollar.Tree the next week so I could pick up a few cans for our holiday.  You just add water and stir and it turns into "snow."  Dear Self, When the can says to protect your surface, what it really means is "this is super messy (especially when kids are involved) and you will hate to try to wipe this off your table if it's not on some disposable tablecloth."  You're welcome.  With love, Your still cleaning this stuff up self.

Ok, now I'm ready for spring!

  1. So fun! How were the cupcakes? We saw that mix earlier in the year and I meant to pick it up to try. I'm a pushover for anything hot cocoa! :)
